As a part of the programme of 14-19 Reforms, and more specifically the 14-16 phase, the Young Apprenticeship programme sits as a distinctive offer to those who would benefit from an occupationally-specific and work-based learning route leading to a level 2 qualification by 16.
The Young Apprenticeship programme is officially designated as a Key Stage 4 curriculum programme but is closely related to the 'Apprenticeship family' as it is supported by Sector Skills Councils. It has a two day per week timetable commitment and involves, over the two year programme, a 50 day work placement element.
The two features of employer engagement and work placement have contributed to the huge success of the programme with both the young people and employers.
Young people should check at their school whether Young Apprenticeships are available.
